About Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent, born on August 1, 1936 in Oran, Algeria, showed a passion for fashion and costume design at an early age. At the age of 17, he moved to Paris to study at the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. After his studies, he won first prize in the 1954 International Wool Secretariat competition with an evening dress. Impressed by his talent, Christian Dior hired him as an assistant. After Dior's death in 1957, Saint Laurent was appointed chief designer at just 21 years of age. In 1960, he founded his own fashion house and presented his first collection in 1962, which revolutionized French couture fashion. In 1966, he designed the iconic pantsuit "Le Smoking," which emphasized the female form in an elegant and matter-of-fact way. Saint Laurent is considered a "revolutionary" of fashion design and left a lasting mark on the fashion world.
