About Stüssy

Shawn Stüssy, born in 1954, grew up in California's surf culture and began making surfboards for friends in Laguna Beach as a teenager. To make his boards stand out, he decorated them with his name in graffiti style, which brought him local notoriety. In the early 1980s, he began printing T-shirts with this logo and selling them alongside his surfboards. These T-shirts quickly caught on and helped create the Stüssy brand. In 1984, he founded Stüssy with Frank Sinatra Jr., which evolved from a surf to a streetwear brand and expanded internationally in the 1990s. In 1996, Shawn Stüssy retired from operational business, while the brand remained successful.
